THE JUNIPER CENTER IN PARK RIDGE INVITES VETERANS, FAMILIES, THE COMMUNITY, TO COMMEMORATE VETERANS DAY WITH LUNCH AND ACTIVITIES TO DE-STRESS
(Park Ridge, IL) The Juniper Center of Park Ridge invites veterans, their families and the community to commemorate Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, from Noon – 2 pm with special activities to promote relaxation and body awareness, which can be a challenge after traumatic life experiences.
“Trauma responses are a result of the brain’s emergency response system getting stuck in the “on” position. We work with people to help get their brain and body back in balance so that they can move on with their life,” said Margo Jacquot, Founder and Director of The Juniper Center. “People affected by traumatic events just want to feel better. At The Juniper Center, using state of the art treatments we help people sleep better, feel less angry, feel less startled or afraid, and overall have better, more satisfying lives.”
According to the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs, about 8 million adults have PTSD during a given year. Specific to the military, 11-20% of veterans who served in Operations Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom, and 12% of Gulf War veterans have PTSD in a given year. 30% of Vietnam Veterans have had PTSD in their lifetime.
The Veterans Day event will take place at 1440 Renaissance Drive in Park Ridge and includes a light lunch, tours of the new Juniper Center location and two workshops designed to help de-stress and build health and body awareness. The Juniper Center will present “Help Your Body Relax through Movement.” Participants will learn to feel comfortable in their bodies by using breathing techniques and easy movements that induce peacefulness.
Dr. Whitney Fandel, DC, DICCP, of Family Tree Chiropractic will hold an interactive program about the Causes and Effects of being stuck on the “Gas Pedal”—for veterans or others dealing with chronic fatigue, insomnia and depression, for example–and how to apply the brake and get life back in balance.
“We at Family Tree Chiropractic are eternally grateful for all that the service men and women have done and continue to do for this country, and are thrilled at the opportunity to give even a little bit back to those who have given so much to so many, “ says Dr. Fandel.
The Leyden Township Veterans’ Service Officer, Retired Army Veteran Cynthia McKee from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, will also be on hand to provide assistance and/or information on resources and benefits for veterans.
Park Ridge has been active in “keeping the Spirit of 45 Alive” with activities and events throughout 2015 honoring veterans’ service and commemorating the 70th anniversary year of the end of WWII.
