Internship Programs at The Juniper Center

The Juniper Center offers full academic-year internship experiences for a small, carefully selected cohort of graduate students for an academic year of training. Our programs are designed to provide meaningful, hands-on clinical experience within a supportive, highly supervised group practice.
Interns are thoughtfully matched with a licensed clinical supervisor whose expertise aligns with the intern’s discipline, clinical interests, and professional goals.

Intern Qualifications
Ideal interns for The Juniper Center demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and readiness for clinical training. Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in a master’s level counseling or art therapy graduate program
- Have reliable transportation to attend in-person internship responsibilities
- Demonstrate independence, organization, and responsibility in their work
- Be open to feedback, supervision, and professional growth
- Work well as part of a collaborative clinical team
- Weekly individual supervision with a licensed clinician
- Bi-monthly peer group supervision for interns and newly licensed clinicians
- Unlimited participation in monthly Clinical Consultation Groups
- Complimentary access to Juniper Center continuing education seminars and monthly webinars
- Integration into a collaborative team of experienced clinicians

Macro-Level Social Work Intern
Overview:
This internship is designed for social work students who are interested in the macro aspects of social work, including policy analysis, program development, community organization, advocacy, and research. Interns will gain experience working on projects that address systemic issues, develop sustainable programs, and promote social justice and equity within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Policy Analysis and Advocacy: Research and analyze local, state, and national policies affecting social work practice and community welfare. Assist in creating advocacy materials, drafting policy briefs, and supporting legislative initiatives.
- Program Development and Evaluation: Assist in designing, implementing, and evaluating social programs aimed at improving services for underrepresented populations. This may include needs assessments, data collection, and analysis.
- Community Outreach and Engagement: Work with community stakeholders, including nonprofits, government agencies, and other social services, to strengthen community partnerships. Support engagement initiatives that empower communities to take active roles in decision-making processes.
- Research and Data Management: Conduct research on best practices, evidence-based interventions, and social service trends. Assist in compiling, analyzing, and presenting data to inform program development and support grant applications.
- Grant Writing and Fundraising: Participate in grant writing and fundraising efforts to support program sustainability. Learn to identify funding opportunities and draft proposals to secure financial support.
- Workshops and Training: Help organize and facilitate workshops, training sessions, or community forums on relevant topics like social justice, cultural competence, and advocacy skills for community leaders and stakeholders.
Skills Developed:
- Understanding of policy-making processes and the social worker’s role in advocacy
- Skills in program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation
- Enhanced research and analytical skills in assessing community needs and service delivery models
- Experience in data analysis, grant writing, and budget management
- Improved communication and engagement skills for diverse community outreach
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work or related field
- Interest in social policy, community development, and advocacy
- Strong communication, research, and analytical skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
Supervision and Training: Interns will receive supervision from a licensed social worker or program manager experienced in macro social work. Training sessions will be provided on topics such as policy analysis, grant writing, community assessment, and other relevant skills.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of the internship, interns will have developed a foundational understanding of macro-level social work practice and gained hands-on experience in community engagement, advocacy, and program development. This experience will equip students with the skills to advocate for change at the systemic level and promote equity and justice within diverse communities.
