About Dr. David Carbonnell

Dr. Carbonell approaches problems of chronic anxiety, not as a disease or disorder that needs to be fixed or cured, but as an understandable part of life, one that naturally occurs when people get “tricked” by their physiology and “common sense” into fearing and opposing the physical sensations and automatic worries that comprise anxiety. In his view, the 45 million Americans with an anxiety disorder are people who have becomecaught up in a counterproductive struggle against their anxiety, a struggle akin to “putting out fires with gasoline”, one whichincreasingly complicates and degrades their lives rather than providing the relief they originally hoped to attain. His method is to help people walk a different path, one that fosters recovery by disengaging from the constant “anti-anxiety” struggles that maintains their present difficulties.

Effective Strategies for Chronic Anxiety

Attend this workshop and take home effective strategies from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Paradoxical Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy, and traditional CBT, blended and delivered in a unique and innovative way. This workshop will show you how to empower your clients with anxiety disorders to see themselves as good, capable people who have been fooled by anxiety, rather than defective people who need to be protected.

Join Dr. Carbonell for this powerful program. Discover how to motivate your clients to seek out, rather than avoid, the corrective experiences they need for recovery and, in the process, rediscover the hopes and dreams they had for life before they were obscured by the anti-anxiety struggle.

OBJECTIVES of this Workshop on Chronic Anxiety

  5. Apply powerful methods to help clients with chronic anxiety disorders.
  6. Demonstrate simple breathing techniques which not only restore comfortable breathing, but serveas a metaphor to guide future responses to anxiety.

More on Dr. David Carbonnell

Effective treatment methods for anxiety disorders were just starting to enter the mainstream when David Carbonell, Ph.D. began his career as a psychologist over 25 years ago.  He’s been helping people overcome fears and phobias and developing new treatment strategies ever since. Blending humor, compassion, and acceptance with cognitive behavioral methods, Dr. Carbonell has taught his innovative treatment methods to more than 7,000 mental health professionals at workshops across the country, and is a frequent speaker at annual conferences of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.

Dr. Carbonell is the “Coach” at www.anxietycoach.com, a popular self- help site, as well as the author of The Worry Trick (New Harbinger Publications, 2016) and Panic Attacks Workbook (Ulysses Press, 2004). He has a unique blend of CBT, ACT, Metacognitive Therapy and Paradoxical Therapy to offer people with anxiety disorders, and the professionals who treat them, and it’s his goal for you to leave armed with an approach, and numerous specific tools, that you can use the same day. Clinicians rave about David’s guiding formulation of the Anxiety Trick, the simple, humorous language with which he describes it, and the way he helps you translate it into practical, powerful interventions.
