About the Presentation

The NeuroAffective Relational Model(NARM) is an advanced clinical training for mental health professionals who work with complex trauma.   NARM is a cutting-edge model for addressing attachment, relational and developmental trauma, by working with the attachment patterns that cause life-long psychobiological symptoms and interpersonal difficulties. These early, unconscious patterns of disconnection deeply affect our identity, emotions, physiology, behavior and relationships. Learning how to work simultaneously with these diverse elements is a radical shift that has profound clinical implications for healing complex trauma.  As such, NARM is positioned to become an invaluable treatment option for the Trauma-Informed Care movement as we gain a greater understanding of the nature of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

Objectives

  • Overview of NARM’s theoretical and clinical approach to developmental trauma
  • NARM’s roots in the field of somatic psychology, psychodynamic psychology, and interpersonal neurobiology
  • The distinction between shock and developmental trauma

About the Presenter

Dr. Bianka Hardin, PsyD., is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), NARM Therapist, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and owner of Centered Therapy Chicago, LLC. She founded CTC in 2014 with the mission to help children, adolescents, and adults improve their mental health and quality of life. Dr. Hardin provides therapy, supervision, and consultation services. She presents in the community on issues related to parenting, child abuse prevention, self-care, mindfulness, trauma-informed care, trauma stewardship, and cultural issues.  She has worked with trauma survivors since 1997 using a relational model of treatment.  Dr, Hardin felt something was missing in her work with trauma survivors and while exploring various treatment modalities, learned about Somatic Experiencing and have found great value in incorporating the wisdom of the body into her work.  She enjoys being a body-oriented therapist and merging psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy with SE.
