Barbara is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She has significant experience working with children, families, and adults having special educational, emotional and medical needs. She has a strong commitment to helping people develop their resilience and self-care skills.
Professionally, she has worked for many years, in schools, a park district day camp, and a special recreation agency. Personally, she is the parent of an adult child with disabilities. Barbara understands and has acquired extensive knowledge about the constant and continuing challenges that families face caring for children/adults with special needs every day. Ms. Schwartz offers supportive services to children, adolescents, families, and individuals that struggle with a lifestyle ruled by stressful medical and behavioral and emotional issues. Her approach is multi-layered, focusing on the emotional, family/caregiving and marital issues that impact on the family unit. She works to develop appropriate and extensive resources that support the family/caregiver’s needs.
Her ultimate goal is to help her clients understand their own personal strengths and develop their resilience to deal with the family member’s needs, and challenges. To help them figure out the best way to function: to deal with their day to day responsibilities; to access, develop and build their strengths: to use supportive resources to take care of their family members: to make time for and create a realistic plan of self-care to attend to their own needs.
