Estey has been a therapist in private practice for close to twenty years with a caseload consisting of adults, adolescents, and varied family and relationship groupings. Estey joins The Juniper Center after a recent move to Chicagoland from the East Coast. Her approach to psychotherapy is client centered and collaborative, tailoring each therapy to the individual or family culture. She is most interested in helping people improve their lives and harness their own strengths and resources. Techniques employed emphasize cultural competency and are informed by many theoretical foundations including psychodynamic theory, family systems theory, and cognitive-behavioral theory. Estey has a background in education at the middle and secondary school level which provides ease and a volume of experience with youth. In addition, a strong foundation in physical health and wellness allows for her conceptualize the whole person, with mind and body working in constant collaboration.
Estey has a specialty in working with people around sexual identity and gender identity and maintains an open and non-judgmental stance to allow for maximum exploration and growth. By utilizing a sex positive approach, her goal is to affirm all relationship structures and Identity configurations. She identifies and presents as gender non-conforming.
