Reintroducing Our Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Program: Innovative Care for Mental Health - Counseling & Therapy Services - The Juniper Center

For those who may not know, The Juniper Center launched its Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) services last year—and this program continues to grow. KAP offers a valuable option for individuals struggling with depression and anxiety who feel they need more support beyond traditional talk therapy or medication management. By integrating ketamine into the therapeutic process, clients can often explore deeper insights and healing. We recently spoke with Clara Langrall, Juniper Center clinician and new head of our KAP department, to discuss how KAP can benefit clients, her passion for this innovative approach, and her vision for expanding the program to serve even more people.

Clara R Langrall

Clara Langrall, one of our dedicated Juniper Center clinicians, has long been passionate about holistic and mind-body approaches to therapy. She first heard about psychedelic therapy in the context of the research conducted at NYU with cancer patients experiencing “existential distress.” Clara states that “the outcomes revealed that deep self-exploration in this way helped people metabolize and process extraordinary fear. I was amazed to read about the experiential and perspective shifts, with patients expressing newfound attitudes of peace, acceptance, and even inspiration or a sense of self-fulfillment. I thought to myself, “Death, especially early death from something like cancer, must be one of the most difficult emotional and psychological experiences someone can undergo. Something truly remarkable is happening here.” Inspired by these findings, Clara pursued further training in psychedelic therapies and now works with clients in our Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy program. As head of the KAP department, she’s eager to continue growing the program, helping more clients explore healing through this innovative approach.

What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an innovative approach used to help treat conditions like depression, PTSD, chronic pain, addiction, and certain types of anxiety. By combining ketamine with psychotherapy, KAP allows clients to explore deeper emotional insights, with the effects of ketamine amplifying and extending the therapeutic work. As Clara explains, “The ketamine-assisted therapist helps clients integrate their experiences into daily life—reflecting on positive insights, emotions, and shifts in perspective, while processing any difficult memories or feelings that may arise.” She emphasizes the importance of creating a safe, supportive environment where clients can explore both uplifting and challenging experiences without judgment. “Therapists guide clients in trusting their healing process—even when the experience feels unfamiliar or illogical—while helping them feel emotionally connected, understood, and safe.”

Hopes and Aspirations for the KAP Department

Like many in this field, Clara has big goals as the new head of the KAP Department at The Juniper Center. She shares, “Through the KAP services at the Juniper Center, I hope we can create a space where clients feel deeply supported in their healing journey. I envision a collaborative environment where clients, therapists, and the medicine work together to foster transformation and lasting well-being.” This vision reflects The Juniper Center’s core mission: ensuring every client feels seen, heard, and empowered to grow into the healthiest version of themselves. In moderate doses, ketamine can produce psychedelic effects, often leading to deep, transformative insights and emotional breakthroughs that support healing. As the KAP program continues to grow, Clara also hopes to educate the community about its benefits—inviting more people to explore this innovative approach to mental health care.
