Helping Families with Young Children
Every Child Wants to Feel Safe, Understood, Empowered, and Loved
As parents, we understand the importance of providing our children with the tools, coping strategies, and positive mindset needed to experience a happy, confident, and meaningful life. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and exhausted (or all of the above) trying to help your child navigate their challenges or mental illness – you’re not alone. At The Juniper Center, our mental health professionals are here to help you and your children during this difficult and challenging time.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed. We often get caught up in things that aren’t working or minimize and/or forget what is working well. But when we look more closely, we can find solutions. Therapy helps you and your child look at all of the pieces of the puzzle to determine the best path forward.
What is Psychotherapy for Children?
Psychotherapy is a form of treatment that involves therapeutic conversations and interactions between a child or family and their therapist. Designed to help children and families understand and resolve problems and modify behaviors, children’s therapy provides tools and solutions to create positive changes. Therapy helps children understand and process the “big feelings” impacting their lives – feelings like anger and frustration, disappointment and sadness, anxiety and fear, hyperactivity, and excitement.
At The Juniper Center, we provide a safe space for children to explore their feelings and process what’s going on beneath the surface. Together with their therapist, your child will begin to acknowledge their own skills, competence, and unique gifts. This leads to happier children, better behavior, and a stronger parent-child relationship.
Therapy can help children who struggle with:
- Sensory sensitivity (visual/sight, tactile/touch, olfactory/smell, auditory/sound, etc.)
- Executive functioning issues (including challenges with focus, attention, organization, keeping track of homework or belongings, etc.)
- Managing anger, sadness, shyness, or anxiety
- Anxiety about school or academic achievement
- Social challenges, such as making or keeping friends
- Processing feelings of loneliness or frustration
- Divorce, separation, or other life changes
- Managing tantrums, explosive outburst or tantrums
- Increasing independence and self-confidence
- And much more

Our team of mental health professionals works with parents to help their children uncover patterns and to identify the elements and context that draws out natural supports for both child and parent. Together with their therapist, your child will work to develop the skills they need to express themselves in a way that can be heard and understood. Using a combination of scientific techniques and compassionate care, we help children develop the skills they need to achieve positive change and growth.
