Frank King, the Mental Health Comedian, shares his vulnerability (“It’s my super power,” says Frank.) What is chronic suicidality? Frank shares his personal story of living with chronic suicidal* ideation. “I live in my darkness,” says Frank, “so I can sit with you in yours.”
Frank is a comedian and public speaker, who regularly speaks about suicide prevention. He has said one thing that stops him from his own suicide (the title of one of his talks is “Suicide! The Secret of My Success”) is the hope that through his honesty and transparency he can help others:
  • Recognize the prevalence of death by suicide and the importance of prevention practices within the workplace
  • Learn the epidemiology, etiology and risk factors of suicidal behavior
  • Discover strategies for screening, assessing, and reducing the risk of suicide
  • Understand special concerns, risk factors and interventions related to military veterans
  • Identify self-injurious behaviors and what objects, substances, and actions are common in suicide attempts
  • Highlight the management and treatment modalities for patients at risk for suicide, including best practices for connecting the patient to referral
  • Gain the knowledge and skills to conduct suicide Postvention
  • Comprehend the relationship between workplace stress and suicide and learn valuable techniques to stress-less at work
Frank is also co-author of the series of books with mental health advice geared to men, called “Guts, Grit, the Grind. “Increasingly, guys are embracing the fact that mental health is an important part of men’s health. This self-help book gives men the tools to increase the psychological hardiness they need to face tough times. Readers will be inspired by stories of resilience and transformation.”
